The City of Dreams is an integrated urban entertainment resort
under construction on the Cotai strip located between the islands
of Taipa and Coloane in the Macau SAR.
The development includes a vast five storey podium, five hotel
towers, an underground theatre and an energy centre. Mott MacDonald
has been providing geotechnical and structural design services for
almost the entire project, and all building services design for the
two 5-star Hyatt hotels.

Only 12 months after commencing this US$2.1 billion
project, it is on track to be ready for the early 2009 Stage 1
opening.
With a floor area of 188,000m2 over three main levels that feature
intermediate mezzanines, the hotels have a combined floor area of
230,000m2 and provide 1,661 rooms in towers up to 36 floors
high.
Transfer beams and trusses above in areas such as ballrooms provide
large column-free spaces. The theatre extends to 23m below ground
level, 21m into the water table, and is housed in a diaphragm wall
shaft with top-down construction of intermediate bracing
floors.
The Hyatt podium includes a main 2,000m2 ballroom and a second one
of 1,300m2 together with meeting and conference areas, a 1,300m2
spa and health club plus a wide range of food and beverage
facilities. We produced over 1,300 structural drawings and 800
building services drawings.
